What Couples Regret Not Asking Their Wedding Photographer
An intimate Colorado lakeside wedding ceremony with a bride and groom exchanging vows outdoors, surrounded by mountains, water, and natural scenery
(And How to Avoid Those Regrets)
Choosing your wedding photographer is one of the most important decisions you’ll make while planning your wedding — yet it’s also one of the most misunderstood.
After photographing weddings and elopements across Colorado, I’ve seen a pattern emerge. When couples look back on their day, they rarely regret what they wore or where they got married — but many wish they had asked their photographer a few key questions before booking.
This post isn’t about fear or pressure. It’s about clarity. My goal is to help you feel confident, informed, and supported as you choose the photographer who will preserve your memories for a lifetime.
1. “What happens if something goes wrong?”
This is one of the most important questions couples don’t ask — and one of the biggest sources of regret.
Weddings are beautifully unpredictable. Timelines run late. Weather shifts. Lighting changes. Equipment can fail. The difference between a stressful experience and a calm one often comes down to preparation.
An experienced wedding photographer should be able to confidently explain:
How they handle unexpected timeline changes
What backup equipment they bring (yes, plural)
How they adapt to challenging lighting or weather
Their plan if something doesn’t go as expected
You deserve a photographer who doesn’t panic — but instead steps in, reassures you, and keeps your day moving smoothly.
2. “Will you help guide us on the wedding day?”
Many couples assume their photographer will simply “show up and shoot,” but the truth is that a great wedding photographer does much more than that.
From building a realistic photo timeline to gently guiding moments when needed, your photographer often becomes one of the most steady presences on your wedding day.
Couples often regret not asking:
Will you help us plan our photo timeline?
Do you step in if we’re unsure what to do?
How do you balance direction with candid moments?
Photography isn’t just about capturing moments — it’s about creating the space for those moments to happen naturally.
3. “How much experience do you have in real wedding situations?”
Style matters — but experience matters more.
Pinterest boards and Instagram feeds don’t show you how a photographer handles:
Tight timelines
Emotional family dynamics
Harsh midday sun
Dim ceremony lighting
Sudden weather changes
Many couples later realize they booked based on aesthetics alone, without fully understanding how much real-world wedding experience matters.
Ask about:
Experience photographing full wedding days
Comfort working in different lighting conditions
Experience at outdoor or non-traditional venues
A seasoned photographer doesn’t just capture what’s happening — they anticipate it.
4. “What is your approach to capturing our story?”
Every photographer has a different philosophy. Some focus heavily on posed imagery. Others lean into documentary-style storytelling. Neither is wrong — but it’s important that their approach aligns with your vision.
Couples often regret not asking:
How do you tell the story of the day?
How do you balance posed portraits with candid moments?
What moments matter most to you as a photographer?
Your wedding photos should feel like you — not a template.
5. “How do you help us feel comfortable in front of the camera?”
Feeling awkward in front of the camera is incredibly common — and completely normal.
The right photographer knows how to:
Create a calm, supportive environment
Offer gentle direction without forcing poses
Allow space for natural emotion to unfold
Many couples later realize they didn’t ask whether their photographer prioritizes comfort and connection — and it shows in the images.
Your wedding day isn’t a photoshoot. It’s an experience. Your photographer should help you stay present in it.
6. “What happens after the wedding?”
The experience doesn’t end when the day is over.
Couples often wish they had asked:
What is the turnaround time?
How will our images be delivered?
What can we expect from the editing process?
Clear communication after the wedding matters just as much as communication before it.
Choosing the Right Wedding Photographer Is About Trust
When couples reflect on their wedding day, their biggest regrets rarely involve photos they didn’t get — but rather moments they wish they had felt more relaxed, supported, and present during.
Choosing the right wedding photographer isn’t just about beautiful images. It’s about trust, experience, and connection.
It’s about knowing the person behind the camera will show up prepared, grounded, and genuinely invested in your experience — not just the final gallery.
Planning a Colorado Wedding or Elopement?
If you’re planning an intimate, nature-inspired wedding or elopement in Colorado and want a photographer who values storytelling, preparation, and meaningful connection, I’d love to connect with you.
How to Choose the Right Wedding Photographer in Colorado (and Why Style + Connection Matter More Than Price)
“An intimate Colorado elopement surrounded by still water, mountain air, and forever love.”
Planning your Colorado wedding? You’re about to make a thousand choices, and choosing the right photographer is a biggie. Let’s break down how to pick someone who’ll capture your day the way you’ll want to remember it forever.
Photography Style Matters More Than You Think
When it comes to wedding photography in Colorado, style isn’t just a buzzword—it’s the vibe that’ll define your memories. Whether you’re drawn to light and airy tones, earthy and true-to-life colors (hey, that’s our Indie Essence specialty!), or a more dramatic, Old Money, editorial approach, your photographer’s style shapes how those moments feel. It’s not just about pretty photos—it’s about creating a visual legacy that feels like you.
Why Connection With Your Photographer Is Everything
Let’s get real: your wedding photographer is practically your shadow on the big day. That means you want someone you actually vibe with. When you feel comfortable, you’re more relaxed, and that translates into authentic, emotion-filled photos. Plus, a photographer who knows how to put you at ease is worth their weight in gold (or, you know, stunning photos).
Experience in Colorado Locations Is a Big Deal
Colorado’s a stunner, but she’s got her quirks—unpredictable weather, mountain lighting, and those breathtaking but sometimes tricky outdoor spots. Having a photographer who’s a Colorado pro means they know how to handle a sudden weather shift or find that hidden gem of a location. Basically, it’s like having a local guide who also happens to be your personal storyteller.
Understanding Packages Without Getting Lost in Numbers
Let’s face it: wedding packages can get confusing fast. The key isn’t just to look at the price tag—it’s to understand what coverage and value you’re actually getting. An experienced photographer might not be the cheapest, but they’ll make sure you get the moments that matter most.
Final Thoughts + A Little Invitation
In the end, choosing your wedding photographer is about finding someone whose style makes your heart sing and who you genuinely connect with. If you’re dreaming of a Colorado wedding captured with a natural, soulful touch, I’d love to be that person for you. Let’s create something beautiful together!
I Don’t Photograph One Season of Life — I Document the Whole Story
I believe photography is about more than documenting a single moment — it’s about preserving every chapter of a life well lived. From the quiet beginnings of a wedding day to motherhood, family, and legacy, this post shares why I photograph stories as they unfold over time.
There’s a common question I hear as a photographer:
“What do you specialize in?”
The honest answer is this—
I specialize in stories.
Not just one chapter. Not just one season. But the full, unfolding narrative of a life.
At Indie Essence Photography, I don’t believe your story fits neatly into a single niche. Life doesn’t move that way. Love doesn’t grow that way. And the moments that matter most are rarely isolated—they’re connected.
Every Story Has a Beginning, a Becoming, and a Legacy
A wedding is not just a wedding.
It’s the beginning of a shared life.
Motherhood is not just pregnancy or a newborn stage.
It’s a transformation—of identity, strength, and love.
A portrait is not just an image.
It’s a reflection of who you are right now, in this season.
Each of these moments stands on its own—but they also belong to something larger. A continuous story that evolves over time.
That is what I photograph.
Why I Don’t Limit My Work to One Niche
Some photographers choose to focus on a single type of session, and that works beautifully for them. For me, my calling has always been deeper than a category.
I am drawn to:
The quiet anticipation before vows are spoken
The raw strength and softness of motherhood
The intimacy of couples choosing each other again and again
The legacy moments that deserve to be remembered, not rushed
These moments are not separate—they are connected by love, intention, and meaning.
By documenting multiple stages of life, I am able to tell fuller stories. Stories that don’t end after one session, but continue as life unfolds.
Photography as Legacy, Not Just a Moment
One of the most powerful realizations I’ve had as both a photographer and a mother is this:
The images we treasure most are not the “perfect” ones.
They are the ones that remind us who we were—and how we loved.
That belief is what led me to create offerings rooted in legacy and storytelling. Sessions that aren’t about trends or timelines, but about preservation. About honoring where you’ve been and where you’re going.
Because one day, these images become more than photographs.
They become proof. Memory. Inheritance.
You Don’t Have to Fit Into a Box to Be Photographed
Whether you are:
planning a wedding or elopement
stepping into motherhood
celebrating a relationship, a milestone, or yourself
or simply wanting to document a season that matters
You don’t need to wait for the “right” label.
If your story is meaningful to you, it’s worth documenting.
This Is the Heart of Indie Essence Photography
I am here for the full story—not just one chapter.
From beginnings to legacies.
From becoming to remembering.
From love found, to love grown.
And if you’re in a season of life that deserves to be seen, honored, and preserved—I would be honored to document it with you.
Colorado Motherhood & Family Photographer for Moms Who Create the Magic
A moment of connection — the heart of motherhood photography in Colorado.
If you’re a mom, you’re not “just” the caregiver. You’re the planner, the closer, the fixer, the comfort, the calendar, the glue. You are the CEO of your household—whether anybody says it out loud or not.
And if you’re the one everyone asks for, the one everyone needs, the one who makes the holidays feel like magic… you already know this truth:
Motherhood is work. Sacred work. Invisible work. And it deserves to be remembered.
I call moms the **magic makers**—because you build a life your children will spend the rest of their adulthood trying to describe.
~ Denver Metro Moms: You Deserve to Be in the Photos
Colorado moms are built different. You’re juggling school drop-offs, carpool lines, work deadlines, household logistics, and the emotional needs of everyone under your roof—while still trying to keep the warmth alive in your home.
But here’s what happens too often:
You’re the one taking the pictures… and barely existing inside the memories.
That’s why booking a **motherhood photography session in Denver** (or Boulder, or Colorado Springs) isn’t “extra.” It’s not indulgent. It’s a decision that says:
**I was here. I mattered. This love was real.**
If you’ve been searching for a **Denver motherhood photographer**, a **Boulder family photographer**, or a **Colorado Springs photographer for moms**, you are exactly who I created Indie Essence Photography for.
~ Supporting Colorado Small Businesses Supports Colorado Families
When you support a small business, you’re not funding a corporate machine. You’re funding a household.
You are helping put real food on real tables. You are helping create Christmas mornings your kids will remember forever. You’re helping pay for the soccer season, the dance recital, the school fundraiser, and the activities that shape childhood joy.
When you book with a local photographer, you’re not buying “photos.” You’re investing in a real human being’s livelihood—and their children’s stability.
And the ripple effect matters. Supporting local means we’re strengthening our community and supporting the systems that raise our future leaders.
~ Local Colorado Resources Moms Actually Use

~ Motherhood Photography in Colorado: This Is Legacy Work
A professional photography session is not about perfection.
It’s about proof.
Proof of the way your child fits into your arms right now.
Proof of the way they look at you when they feel safe.
Proof of the connection you’ve built through a thousand ordinary days.
Because one day the house will be quieter. The toys will be gone. The little hands won’t reach for you the same way.
But your photos will still be here.

November Reflections & A New Lens to Tell Your Stories: The Sony 50–150mm f/2 GM
Holding my new Sony 50–150mm f/2 G Master — a powerhouse lens bringing sharper detail, richer depth, and even more artistry to your sessions.
November always feels like a bridge between seasons—a slow, golden fade from autumn’s warmth into winter’s quiet magic. For me, it’s also a month of reflection, inspiration, and preparing for the beautiful sessions that close out the year. And this November, I’m celebrating something extra exciting: a brand new lens that’s already transforming the way I photograph your stories.
I finally welcomed the Sony 50–150mm OSS f/2 into my gear bag… and wow. This lens is a dream.
Why This Lens Matters for Your Sessions
As a photographer who works heavily outdoors—capturing everything from glowing maternity portraits to earthy, goddess-vibe creative shoots—I’m constantly looking for tools that bring even more depth, emotion, and artistry to your images. This lens does exactly that.
✨ Stunning Compression & Dreamy Backgrounds
The 50–150mm range gives me beautiful compression that makes subjects pop effortlessly. Whether you’re wrapped in a cozy blanket during your fall family session or standing in flowing fabrics during a maternity shoot, this lens turns backgrounds into soft, painterly color.
✨ f/2 Aperture for Gorgeous Low Light
November light hits different—golden, moody, atmospheric. With this fast aperture, I can shoot into dusk and still capture creamy skin tones and rich detail. Your sessions get even more magic during sunrise and sunset.
✨ Optical SteadyShot for Crisp Images
No matter whether we’re shooting in mountain winds, snowy meadows, or during a creative portrait with lots of movement, OSS helps keep everything sharp and consistent. More keepers, fewer missed moments.
✨ A Perfect Fit for What Indie Essence Photography Stands For
This lens feels like an extension of the storytelling I love—intimate, warm, and soulful. It elevates everything from close emotional moments to wide, powerful portraits that celebrate your essence.
Bringing New Artistry Into November Sessions
I’ve already been testing the lens on some personal and client work this month, and the results have me swooning. Skin tones are buttery. Colors stay true. And the bokeh? Soft, creamy perfection.
If you’re planning a family session, maternity shoot, creative portrait, or a snow-kissed session heading into winter—this lens will help make your images even more timeless and artistic.
November is a beautiful month to capture the quiet magic of your season… and now, with a new tool that brings even more depth and emotion to your photos, I can’t wait to show you what we create together.
Why a G Master Lens Makes Such a Big Difference
Adding a Sony G Master lens to my kit isn’t just an upgrade—it’s an investment in the quality, consistency, and artistry I bring to every session. Sony-designed the G Master series with professionals in mind, and it truly shows in every detail. Here’s why this matters for you and your photos:
✨ Unmatched Sharpness & Detail
G Master lenses are known for their stunning clarity. They resolve even the finest details—like the texture of a flowing maternity gown, the softness of a newborn’s hair, or the emotion in a mother’s eyes.
This means your photos look crisp, vibrant, and beautifully true to life.
✨ Dreamy, Creamy Bokeh
The bokeh on a G Master lens is something magical. The background melts away into buttery smoothness, allowing your connection, emotion, and presence to take center stage.
Whether I’m shooting goddess-style portraits in the woods or intimate motherhood moments at golden hour, this lens adds a cinematic softness that elevates every frame.
✨ Fast, Accurate, and Quiet Autofocus
During sessions with movement—spinning dresses, playful kids, couples running through the snow—autofocus matters.
G Master lenses have lightning-fast AF that locks onto subjects quickly and accurately, even in low light. This means more in-focus images, more emotion captured, and fewer missed moments.
✨ Built for Challenging Outdoor Conditions
Because so many of my shoots happen in the mountains, forests, or open fields, weather resistance is essential.
G Master lenses are sealed against dust and moisture, giving me the confidence to keep shooting even when Colorado’s weather surprises us—wind, snow, sudden cold fronts and all.
✨ Optical Excellence Across the Entire Frame
Many lenses are sharp only in the center. G Master lenses deliver edge-to-edge clarity, so even wide shots feel powerful and polished.
This is crucial for my style, especially when I’m placing clients in dramatic landscapes where every corner of the image matters.
✨ Consistent, Professional Color Rendering
The colors straight out of a G Master lens are rich, clean, and beautifully accurate.
Skin tones look natural. Earth tones remain earthy. Golden-hour warmth feels soft and organic.
It supports everything Indie Essence Photography stands for—intimate, grounded, soulful imagery.
What This Means for Your Photos
When you book a session with me, you’re not just getting my creative eye—you’re getting the very best tools available working alongside it.
The Sony 50–150mm f/2 G Master allows me to create images that feel:
richer
sharper
more emotional
more cinematic
more timeless
It elevates everything from quick, playful family moments to deeply powerful maternity portraits.
This lens isn’t just a piece of equipment.
It’s part of the art.

The Art of Motherhood
Fine Art Photography. Studio Maternity Photoshoot.
Capturing Your Glow Through Editorial-Style Maternity Portraits
Recently, I had the privilege of attending a maternity workshop at Cabin House Studios, and it reminded me just how powerful and beautiful these moments are. In that studio space, I got to play with light and shadow, capturing the quiet strength and radiant glow that every expecting mother carries. The images we created weren’t just photographs—they felt like works of art, full of emotion and story.
As a mom myself, I know that pregnancy can feel like both the longest and the shortest season of your life. Your body changes daily, your emotions shift, and before you know it, this chapter has passed. That’s why maternity photography is so close to my heart. It’s not about posing perfectly—it’s about documenting the connection you already have with the little life growing inside you.
To all the local moms-to-be here in Colorado, I want to extend a heartfelt invitation. Let’s create images that honor you—your glow, your strength, your anticipation. Whether you envision something editorial and artistic like the studio images from my workshop, or something soft, earthy, and outdoors in nature, I want your session to feel like a true reflection of who you are in this season.
If you’ve been thinking about booking maternity photos, consider this your sign. These weeks are fleeting, but the memories we can capture together will last a lifetime.

Senior Pictures
This beautiful young lady is ready for the Big wide world. Capturing this moment of her youth will allow her to remember the good old days! Whether it’s the style she grew up wearing or the location that brings back those precious memories. Senior pictures are an heirloom for each individual to cherish for years to come.
Don’t Miss the Deadline: Why Now Is the Time to Schedule Your Senior Pictures
Senior year is such an exciting milestone—it’s the year of big decisions, big memories, and celebrating just how far your senior has come. Among all the “lasts” and upcoming events, there’s one important detail that can sneak up quickly: the deadline to submit senior pictures to the school yearbook.
Most schools set their deadlines for portraits earlier than families realize—often in the fall or early winter. Waiting too long can mean missing the cutoff, settling for rushed photos, or worse, not having your senior’s personality represented in the yearbook at all.
That’s why now is the perfect time to schedule a senior photo session. Planning ahead ensures your senior gets more than just a picture for the yearbook—it’s a chance to capture their individuality, style, and story in this once-in-a-lifetime season. From casual outdoor vibes to more styled, editorial looks, these photos should feel like them.
Beyond the yearbook, senior pictures become heirlooms—prints to share with grandparents, announcements for graduation, and keepsakes your senior will treasure for years. By scheduling early, you’ll have time to enjoy the process without the stress of last-minute deadlines.
📸 Tip: Check your school’s submission date now so you can plan backward. Once the deadline is on the calendar, you’ll know exactly how much time you have to book, shoot, and receive your finished gallery.
Your senior only has one “class of 2026” moment—let’s make sure it’s captured beautifully and on time. Reach out today to reserve a spot before the busy season fills up, and let’s create images that your senior will be proud to look back on.
Below are just a few links to some of the local High schools and the deadline dates to submit your senior’s photos.

Shoutout Colorado Article
This image of me was taken in Freak Alley, Boise, Idaho at the last workshop I went to ( The Heart and Soul Workshop) by the One and only Michelle Close.
I’m honestly still taking it all in.
This week, I had the incredible honor of being featured in Shoutout Colorado—a platform that highlights creatives and entrepreneurs making waves in their communities. When I first got the email, I had to read it twice. Then I sat with it, overwhelmed with gratitude. To be recognized like this… it’s more than just a feature. It’s a moment that affirms everything I’ve poured into this journey.
When I started Indie Essence Photography, I wasn’t chasing recognition. I was following a feeling—this deep pull to create, to connect, to tell stories that matter. Photography became my healing, my art, my offering to the world. Every session, every image, every soul I’ve had the privilege of capturing has shaped this beautiful path. And to know that others are seeing that light too—it’s incredibly humbling.
This recognition reminds me why I do what I do. It’s not just about the photos—it’s about the people. The mothers, the dreamers, the lovers, the creators, the ones stepping into their power in front of my lens. You all inspire me every single day.
To be featured in Shoutout Colorado feels like the universe whispering, “Keep going.” And I will. With even more heart, more vision, and more gratitude.
If you’ve supported me along the way—whether by booking a session, sharing a kind word, or simply cheering me on from afar—thank you. I see you. I feel your love. And I carry it with me into every frame.
Here’s to the beauty of being seen, and to the many stories still waiting to be told.
With so much love,
Christy

Summer Fun
Just na few pics of our boat ride, my campsite, a toad I caught, and wakeboarding.
As a mom the summers do not really slow down. It actually speeds up for me. My littles are already in a routine of waking up before 6am because let’s face it, why in the world would they actually sleep in? I never did any sleep training for any of my babies so I have no clue if that would have worked or not. When you have a house as busy as ours I don’t think sleep training would have mattered. Here it is, by 8AM Im writing my blog post after I have already showered one little because he woke up from peeing the bed, fed all of the littles their morning, “before breakfast snack”, Yes you heard that right, a before breakfast snack. What it is, is a yogurt squeeze. I put them in the bottom drawer in the fridge that way they can reach them without me actually having to get it for them. This small change in our routine has saved my sanity to some extent. I have already cleaned yogurt up off the floor because my youngest squeezed the tube too hard and got it all over, and have let the dog out because she was yodeling. This is just a small glimpse into the busyness that my life consist of.
One Week ago I took my three oldest kids to Lake McConaughey for a youth church activity. As a youth leader I was super excited to experience this opportunity with my kids but was nervous being in charge of other peoples children. Would they even listen to me or respect me, were thoughts that ran through my mind. Aside from my gear being used without me really knowing about it, the trip went fairly smooth. There were two storms that rolled through, and the last one over half the campers left, but we hunkered down and stayed the last night.
The first night we got there I was determined to have the coolest set up. Leaders were not to bunk with the youth so I had my own little 3 person dome tent, but in all reality it just fit me with my cot. I set up a EZup on the outside of my tent so I had an area to chill when not in my tent. I then strung lights and staked down a blanket and mat to walk on. On the front corners just right outside my pop up I put four solar lights that would light up the front entrance of my campsite and two tiki torches to help with the bugs.
The second day we spent all day at the beach. My two daughters stayed out on one of the boats all day long, while my oldest son, did what he does best, disappears and hung out with the other kids. So there I was left to hang out with all the other youth who stayed at the beach. It was great to get to know the other kids from the other wards and get to know the kiddos from my ward even better. I got our paddle boards inflated and decided to go out on my board for a little bit. it was so relaxing to be out all by myself. to lay in the sun and just float. No hearing the constant screams from my littles or fighting siblings, cleaning up messes spilt, or changing dirty diapers. This is kind of where my mom guilt creeps in. I felt guilty that my lovely husband was at home holding down the fort while I was out having fun with our older kiddos. He had to take time off work to stay home with them so I could go. Boy I cannot wait until the day come that the two of us are able to vacation together. The afternoon rolled around and that is when the first storm came through. High winds were pushing people out further in the lake and one of our leaders who is a very avid paddle boarder had to be rescued as she was trying to paddle back against the wind. One of the boats went out and picked her up and everyone got back to camp safe.
The third day we were at Lake McConaughey was another beach day. This time I was able to go out on one of the boats. It was so much fun. I actually tried wake boarding, which didn’t go very well. It was soooo much harder than I ever expected. I could not get up out of the water. after so long on the boat I started to get motion sick. The stop and go then the waves smashing into the boat was a little much for this inlander. After arriving back at the beach I had to take it easy for a bit because it felt like I was still out on the water. My girls are so sweet and they helped take care of me by getting me water and making me lunch. As the dizziness went away I decided to cool off again in the water by swimming and paddle boarding until we all noticed another storm rolling in. This was the big one.
Winds were really strong when we got back to camp. Tents were taken down in fear that they would break in the wind or blow away. This is when other leaders started contemplating packing up and driving home that night. The severity was unknown to me. I knew about the sever thunderstorm warnings but really how bad??? Some said hail others said just strong winds and rain. Well were my tent was set up was under a tree because that’s where the shade was when we originally arrived. Well what I was unaware of at the time was the fact that there was a dead tree branch right above my tent and Sprinter van. I was advised to move the Van and tent incase the winds got so strong that the branch broke. I definitely did not want impaled in the middle of the night if it did break. So I was then faced with the decision. Should we stay or should we go. In order to move my tent, which by the way was completely solid and not moving in the wind, I had to pack up everything. At that rate the thoughts ran through my mind that we should just go as well. To be honest I was annoyed of having to take down my whole set up but in the end it was for the best. Some of the other youth helped were they could in braking down my camp and loading it into the van all over again. That night I ended up sleeping in my van while my girls stayed in one of the other leader’s camper and my oldest son said he was fine sleeping in my tent once we moved it out from under the tree. The lightning that evening light up the sky for miles and was beautiful. I worried some for the tent camper, “ my son”, for they may get washed away. Well we are all home now, safe and dry. We survived the storms of Lake McConaughey. I can’t believe this whole trip I only get a handful of pics.

What started as a dream—just a spark rooted in passion, motherhood, and a longing to create something meaningful—has transformed into a soulful, thriving photography business that has touched more lives than I ever imagined. As I celebrate the one-year anniversary of Indie Essence Photography, I’m reflecting with deep gratitude, awe, and a heart so full it’s hard to put it all into words.
But here it goes...
A Year of Becoming
Indie Essence was born from my love for storytelling, my lived experience as a mother of nine, and a desire to empower women to see their own beauty—raw, radiant, and real. From that foundation, I’ve spent this year building more than a business; I’ve built a community. A place where vulnerability meets strength. Where softness and fire exist together. Where women, mothers, families, and free spirits can show up as their truest selves.
I started this journey with a camera and a calling—and now I’m closing out the year with a gallery full of stories I’ve had the honor of capturing.
A Glimpse at the Growth
This year brought me:
Dozens of clients who trusted me to freeze their most sacred moments—maternity sessions in golden light, intimate boudoir shoots that celebrated self-love, joyful family portraits in nature, and branding sessions that reflected the heartbeat of creative entrepreneurs.
A blossoming portfolio of outdoor goddess-style portraits and documentary-style motherhood shoots that reflect both my personal passion and professional voice.
A focus on photographing women solo in nature—an artistic niche that’s become the signature of Indie Essence. Whether it was an empowerment session in the forest or a soft sunrise maternity shoot, each photo told a deeper story.
And most importantly: growth. As an artist. As a businesswoman. As a mother balancing it all.
Investing in Myself, So I Can Serve Others Better
One of the most powerful parts of this journey has been saying yes to opportunities that stretched me. This year, I traveled to Boise, Idaho, to attend a transformative photography workshop—something I would have never imagined doing a year ago. That trip opened my eyes to new techniques, new connections, and a deepened confidence in my voice as a photographer.
I’ve invested time, energy, and soul into learning not just how to take a beautiful photo, but how to create an experiencefor every person who steps in front of my lens.
What I’ve Learned
Authenticity is everything. When I show up as my full self, my clients feel safe to do the same.
Every body, every season, every story is worthy of being celebrated.
Slowing down matters. Some of the most powerful shots come when we take a breath, let go of perfection, and allow the moment to just be.
Thank You
To every client who took a chance on a brand new business…
To every mama who trusted me to document her postpartum strength or nurse her baby in raw beauty…
To every couple, family, friend, and goddess who stepped into the wild with me—
Thank you.
You’ve been the foundation of Indie Essence. Your stories have shaped my own.
Looking Ahead
This next year, I plan to grow even more intentionally—offering new session options, continuing my work on my motherhood and postpartum documentary project, and leaning deeper into creative outdoor portraiture.
If you’ve been a part of my journey this year—or if you’ve been watching from the sidelines, waiting for a sign to book—this is it. Let’s make magic together in year two.
With all my heart,

Why Every Mom Deserves to Be in Photos: The Beauty of Motherhood Photography
My selfie with 4 of my littles. We all had hats on and wanted to show Dad. This is how most of my memories are show cased, A selfie is better than nothing.
Do You Ever Feel Like You’re Missing from the Memories?
As a busy mom, wife, and the heart of my family, I often find myself capturing moments for everyone else—but rarely stepping into them myself. Between the daily chaos, the to-do lists, and the constant juggling of responsibilities, it’s easy to lose sight of what truly matters: being present.
We take pictures of our children, their milestones, their laughter, and the love we pour into them. But when they look back years from now, will they see us in those memories?
That’s what inspired me to start Indie Essence Photography—a passion-driven business focused on capturing the raw, beautiful essence of motherhood.
Why Motherhood Photography Matters
Moms Deserve to Be in the Frame
Too often, moms are the ones behind the lens, documenting life but never fully living in the photos. But here’s the truth: You deserve to be seen. Your children deserve to have memories of you—your warmth, your laughter, the way you hold them close.
The Power of Capturing Motherhood
As a mother myself, I know how fleeting these moments are. The way tiny hands wrap around your fingers, the sleepy cuddles, the pure joy in their eyes—it all passes in the blink of an eye. Photography freezes these moments, turning them into timeless keepsakes.
Why Book a Mom & Child Photoshoot?
If you’ve been waiting for the “perfect time” to schedule a motherhood photoshoot, let this be your sign. There is no better time than now to capture the love, connection, and beauty of your journey.
A Motherhood Photoshoot Is:
✅ A celebration of the love between you and your children
✅ A way to preserve memories for generations
✅ A gift to yourself—because you deserve to be in the picture too
Let’s Create Something Beautiful Together
At Indie Essence Photography, I specialize in motherhood, maternity, and family photography that captures real emotions and authentic moments. My goal is to make you feel comfortable, beautiful, and cherished in every image.

The Mental Load of Motherhood and Entrepreneurship
Being exhausted to the core but still have to hold it together for everyone else
Overstimulated and On Overdrive: The Mental Load of Motherhood and Entrepreneurship
Some days, the world is just too much. The dishes pile up, the laundry overflows, and the tiny voices calling “Mom!” echo nonstop. The constant movement, the endless to-do lists, the needs that never seem to pause—it all builds into a deafening roar. Overstimulation creeps in, tightening its grip until even the smallest noise feels like nails on a chalkboard. And yet, we keep going. Because we have to.
Motherhood is beautiful, but it’s also relentless. And when you add entrepreneurship into the mix, the weight doubles. It’s a job with no clock-out time, no sick days, no off-switch. The mental load—the invisible weight of managing schedules, remembering appointments, anticipating needs, and holding space for every emotion in the household—is exhausting. And in the middle of it all, where do we fit?
The Signs of Overstimulation
Overstimulation isn’t just a buzzword; it’s a very real, very overwhelming experience. It shows up in different ways:
Irritability – The little things suddenly feel unbearable. A sibling argument, the dog barking, the crinkle of a snack bag—it’s all too much.
Exhaustion – Not just physical tiredness, but a deep, bone-weary fatigue that no amount of coffee can fix.
Sensory Overload – The sound of the TV, the feel of sticky hands on your skin, the visual clutter—everything feels amplified and inescapable.
Mental Fog – Struggling to focus, forgetting tasks, feeling like your brain is running on empty.
Why Are Moms Always in Overdrive?
We juggle so many roles—caregiver, planner, referee, emotional anchor—often without acknowledging how much we are carrying. And for mom entrepreneurs, the workload doesn’t stop at home. There are clients to respond to, emails to send, marketing to manage, and a never-ending to-do list. The pressure to balance both family and business success can be overwhelming.
Society conditions us to push through, to be “supermoms” who can handle it all. But handling it all comes at a cost.
Our nervous systems were not designed for constant overstimulation. We need space to reset, but often, we don’t allow ourselves that time. Instead, we push forward, running on fumes, until burnout feels inevitable.
How to Find Relief
While we can’t eliminate the chaos entirely, we can create moments of calm within it. Here’s how:
Sensory Breaks – Step outside for a minute of fresh air. Sit in a quiet, dark room for five minutes. Put on noise-canceling headphones if needed.
Lower the Bar – Let go of the expectation to do everything perfectly. Some days, survival mode is enough.
Ask for Help – Whether it’s a partner, a friend, or a trusted support system, delegating tasks can make a huge difference.
Set Boundaries – It’s okay to say no. It’s okay to let the kids watch a little extra TV so you can breathe. It’s also okay to set business boundaries—clients can wait.
Reconnect with Yourself – Whether it’s journaling, photography, a hot shower, or deep breaths in the closet—find tiny ways to nurture you.
You Are Not Alone
If you feel overstimulated, overwhelmed, and running on empty, know this: You are not broken. You are not failing. You are carrying more than anyone sees, and you deserve rest, too.
Motherhood and entrepreneurship will always be full of noise and chaos, but you deserve moments of peace within it. Give yourself grace, mama—you’re doing more than enough.

Motherhood is a journey that reshapes our lives in ways we never imagined. As a mother of nine, I’ve experienced every high and low this journey has to offer—from the miracle of birth to the heartache of loss, from the struggles of nursing and pumping to the shadowed days of postpartum depression and anxiety. Every moment has left its imprint, weaving a story of love, resilience, and transformation.
This is why my current photography project is so deeply personal to me. It’s about capturing the untold stories of motherhood—the moments of triumph, the moments of pain, and the incredible resilience that we mothers embody. Motherhood isn’t just about the glowing maternity photos or the perfect family portraits; it’s also about the messy, raw, and emotional moments that often go unseen. It’s about sleepless nights, tears of joy and exhaustion, and the courage it takes to keep going when the weight of it all feels overwhelming.
As someone who has birthed six children, miscarried one, and embraced the role of mother to nine, I’ve walked many paths of this journey. I’ve felt the joy of a baby’s first cry, the pride of watching my children grow, and the ache of loss that comes with saying goodbye too soon. I’ve grappled with the realities of postpartum depression and anxiety—the moments when the world felt too heavy and the walls seemed to close in. I’ve sat alone in the dark, pumping milk for a baby who needed me, while silently willing myself to find the strength for another day. These experiences have shaped me and deepened my empathy for other mothers navigating similar struggles.
Through my lens, I aim to honor these stories. This project is more than a collection of photographs; it’s a tribute to the raw and unfiltered beauty of motherhood. Each image tells a story—a mother nursing her newborn, her face a mix of tenderness and fatigue; a moment of quiet between a mother and her child after a storm of tears; or a woman rediscovering her strength after navigating the depths of postpartum anxiety. These are the stories that deserve to be told, shared, and celebrated.
Motherhood is often idealized in our culture, but it’s rarely shown in its full, authentic light. This project seeks to change that by fostering connection and understanding among mothers everywhere. Whether you’ve experienced birth trauma, navigated the challenges of nursing, or battled the silent struggles of PPD or PPA, your story matters. Your journey is valid, and your resilience deserves to be celebrated.
To the mothers reading this, I see you. I see your strength, your vulnerability, and your unwavering love. This project is for you—to honor your sacrifices, your triumphs, and the unique journey that defines your motherhood. I hope these images will remind you that you’re not alone, and that every part of your story—the joyful, the painful, and the messy—is worth cherishing.
If you’re a mother who wants to share your story through this project, I would be honored to capture your journey. Let’s document the moments that make motherhood so profoundly beautiful, in all its raw and real glory.
Happy New Year 2025
Watching the beautiful Fireworks light up the sky!
As I sit here and reflect on 2024, I can’t help but to be proud for the accomplishments that I have made. As moms we often think about wanting to set goals for the new year, which yes, don’t get me wrong, I have definitely done that, but we always think how we could have done better at something, right? Well not only do I have goals set for 2025, I want to recognize the accomplishments that were made in 2024. Indie Essence Photography was officially launched in June 2024. I know that doesn’t seem very long but when you have a life long passion and hobby then it doesn’t seem like such a short time ago. We attended our first community fair in October of 2024. Then in December an article was published in the Voyage Denver Magazine about my journey through Indie Essence Photography. More and more my love for photography grows. I love looking back at images of my own children and experiences and want to provide that service for others. Everyone these days is a photographer in a sense with all the available technology and cell phones but not everyone takes pictures with love and creativity. By being able to customarily paint an image you are creating a very memorable experience for your clients while expressing my artistic passion. I look forward to growth in my business and skills over the next year.

So about a little over a month ago I was contacted by an individual on the editorial team for the Voyage Denver Magazine. They wanted to do an interview about me and my business. At first I was skeptical of moving forward because I thought, “How and why would just anyone reach out to me?” I am just a nobody I told myself. Well I asked how they heard about me and they stated that usually individuals are contacted based on referrals or someone from their team came across my information via socials etc. Well the interview was finally published. Mompreneur/Solopreneur
Creative portraits out in nature really allow ourselves to express who we are!
Being a mom is no small token let alone running a business at the same time. I have been blessed with the ability to stay home with my children but I tend go stir crazy feeling like I want to contribute more to my family all while doing something I love. I have a passion for art. I love drawing, painting, sculpting and of course photography. Being a momma of young children doesn’t always allow time to fullfil all forms of my passion. With photography I get to step out into nature and let the landscapes help paint the vibe of the images. Now I am not a landscape photographer by any means. I am very much a creative portrait, family, and maternity photographer that also enjoys the edge and feminine touch of Boudoir. I want all my clients to feel sexy in their own bodies. God made us all individually and we should all embrace who we are. So whether you are an expectant momma, Seasoned momma, or an individual that wants to express their creative side you all deserve to see and feel as beautiful as you truly are. That is really why I decided to start my own photography business!!!!
Getting Ready for my own Photos
I, just as many of you, get anxious when I have photos of my own planned. Whether its a branding shoot for my business, Family photos, or self portraits I go through the run around of, What do I wear, how should I do my hair and makeup etc.? As a Colorado native being a crunchy mom is typically my norm but I also like to have a little class and sass. I am totally fine chilling in sweatpants all day one day and then be ready to waltz down Wall Street the next. (figuratively) So even photographers who do this for a living go through the same battles that our clients are most likely experiencing.
Photographing big families.
So as I mentioned before, I am a mother of 9 children. I have become familiar with the idea of trying to “embrace the moment.” It is physically and darn near mentally impossible to think that special moments such as, family photos, won’t be accompanied by exploration and expression of everyone’s personalities. That’s just what we want right? We want to capture the most authentic moments that depict who we are. So mommas who are stressing out about whether the kids match perfectly or if everyone is looking and smiling at the camera the whole time, Just don’t. Yes those are beautiful photos but is that truly who you all are? The best part, is when having a photo session done there is a series of images that you can choose to showcase. Not only on social media do we want to exhibit our love for the memories we create, but in our home where our heart is, will be the most memorable and meaningful place to express our love for each other. So let the kids be kids I say and those will truly be the core memories you are trying to capture!!!!!!!
Attending a Community Fair
Today was the first day we actually participated in an event. The Forester Family Medical Supply company hosted a community fair. It was such a great opportunity to get out and network with other business owners and like minded individuals. Meeting others who enjoy helping people is so inspiring. In my business I want to help families bond through a family photo session, help individuals gain self confidence/ acceptance through a creative or Boudoir portrait session, & help mommas to be (pregnant mommas) embrace their beautiful growing bellies. At Indie Essence Photography we also can help with Professional Headshots, senior portraits and newborn sessions. We want to help you showcase your greatest accomplishments and memories with beautiful wall art.
My story

Being a stay at home mom, I needed a way to express myself and also support my family. I love art in all forms. Photography has always captured my attention, ever since I was a young girl. Capturing images of my family is really important to me. I always catch myself reminiscing back at past photos. Let me help you dip the same for yours
